The Donner Party was rescued on this day in 1847. Surviving members of the ill-fated Donner Party, a group of pioneers snowbound in a Sierra Nevada mountain pass for almost four months, are finally located by a rescue party. Harrowing tales follow, including accounts of cannibalism.
